Keynote Speakers 2024:

Professor A F M Maniruzzaman, PhD (Cambridge, UK).

He is Chair Professor in International and Business Law, University of Portsmouth, UK (since 2004). He has acted as a Tribunal Chairman / arbitrator, counsel and expert / consultant in multi-million-dollar international arbitrations (including some high-profile ICSID, ICC, and IICRA cases). He also acted as an International Legal Consultant to the Commonwealth Secretariat (HQ), London, governments, state-owned enterprises, multinational corporations and multinational law firms (including of the Magic Circle). He is also a Harvard trained mediator & negotiator and a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, London. He served as the Honorary Special Adviser (constitutional & international legal matters) to the Honourable President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh (1996-2001). He is an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh (since 1983).

He has been in visiting professor/senior academic positions at the Universities of Oxford, Cambridge, London, Kent, Dundee, Peking, Western University, Canada, and China University of Political Science and Law, Beijing, etc. He has been an Editor and on the International Editorial / Advisory Boards of a number of reputed international legal periodicals (Manchester Journal of International Economic Law, JIEL, OGEL, Manchester Journal of Transnational Islamic Law & Practice, Transnational Dispute Management, CEJISS, Journal of Transnational Law).

Professor Maniruzzaman is interested in poetry and also writes poems in Bengali and English.

Professor Mahmudul Hasan

Md. Mahmudul Hasan is Professor in the Department of English Language and Literature at International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). He completed a PhD at the University of Portsmouth, UK and did a postdoctoral stint at the University of Heidelberg, Germany. Among the presses that have published his work are the Asiatic Society of Bangladesh, Brill, Georgia Southern  University, Orient BlackSwan, Routledge, SAGE, and Wiley-Blackwell. Professor Hasnat Dewan

Professor Hasnat Dewan has over 30 years of teaching experience in Economics at universities in the USA, Canada, China, and Bangladesh. Currently, he is a Professor of Economics at Thompson Rivers University (TRU), a member of the TRU Board of Governors, and Chair of the Bob Gaglardi School of Business and Economics Faculty Council. He also served as the Chair of Economics, the Coordinator of the School of Business and Economics International Programs, a TRU Senator, and a Director of the TRU Faculty Association Executive Board. Professor Dewan’s “exemplary leadership” was recognized with the TRU Chair Leadership Award (https://inside.tru.ca/2018/05/30/dr-hasnat-dewan-presented-with-chair-leadership-award/).

Over 20 awards for academic, teaching, research, and service excellence from institutions in four countries highlight Professor Dewan’s achievements. As a Fulbright Scholar, he earned his MA from Yale University and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin. He was also awarded the University Gold Medal for securing the highest mark among graduating students from all undergraduate programs of Jahangirnagar University that year.

Professor Dewan’s primary research area is Sustainable Development. Alongside publishing articles and contributing chapters to respected journals and books, he has presented his work at over 30 conferences and seminars across Asia, Europe, Australia, and North America. He has served on thesis/project supervising committees for BBA, MBA, MSc in Environmental Science, MSc in Environmental Economics and Management, MEd, and Doctoral students.
